Why Minerals?
Mineral makeup is a lighter and natural alternative to traditional cosmetics. Minerals are naturally occurring, inorganic substances that provide a physical barrier between the skin and the environment and does not get absorbed into the skin. For this reason, cosmetics made of mineral products are naturally hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic. But the most important property of minerals used in cosmetics is its Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide in mineral cosmetics provide instant physical sun protection from both UVA an UVB radiation. Plastic surgeons and doctors have been using mineral cosmetics for decades to provide beautiful make-up coverage to their patients with skin conditions such as rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and acne.
What makes Avanya Mineral Cosmetics Different?
Avanya was created by a medical doctor, Dr. Joan Baijnath, to address skin problems she and her patients were experiencing. Dr. Baijnath found that mineral make-up is the healthy answer to beautiful skin but the mineral make-up lines available were not versatile enough for the average woman with a busy lifestyle. Dr. Baijnath created a line of mineral make-up that eliminated the white, ashy undertones seen in traditional mineral make-up lines. To ensure the purity and integrity of the product she remains an integral part of the day-to-day research, development and manufacturing process. Avanya's spill-proof packaging is ideal for the busy woman. While healthy skin gives us more confidence, Dr. Baijnath knew that women also want to feel beautiful. She created a full line of cosmetics that offers a wide range of beautiful colors, make-up that provides flawless coverage but allows your skin to breathe so you feel like you have nothing on.
Why is mineral make-up good for acne or acne prone skin?
Acne vulgaris (common acne) can be caused by many factors such as hormones, stress, medications, and commonly by cosmetics. Traditional cosmetic products that contain perfumes, preservatives and organic dyes are known skin irritants and can cause acne flare-up. They can also be absorbed into the pores to form comedone plugs (blackheads) that block the secretion of sebum from pores. The interaction of the comedonal plugs with bacteria in the blocked pores lead to inflammation of the skin - what we know as acne. Due to the fact that Mineral make-up lies on the skin and forms a physical barrier between the skin and the environment, it is NOT absorbed, it allows the pores to breathe and maintain normal function of the skin. Avanyas mineral cosmetics also contain zinc oxide which has natural, anti-inflammatory properties that will help with any existing inflammatory processes occurring on your skin. The result of Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics is flawless coverage with healthy looking skin.
Why is mineral makeup good for sensitive skin?
The fundamental properties of the minerals in mineral makeup, makes it ideal for individuals with sensitive skin for several reasons. By definition minerals are inert substances and therefore will not support bacterial growth. Avanyas loose mineral products do not contain any preservatives, which can often times provoke an inflammatory response. Our mineral make-up also contains zinc oxide which is a natural anti-inflammatory to help reduce any existing signs of inflammation such as redness. The fact that ingredients such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide provide Sun Protection Factor is a major protection for sensitive skin. By allowing the skin to breathe by forming a physical barrier and not being absorbed into the skin, mineral make-up is naturally hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic.
Why is mineral make-up a healthier alternative for pregnant women?
Due to hormonal changes, pregnant women with sun exposure appear to be susceptible to hyperpigmentation of the face, a condition known as Melasma. Pregnant women can prevent this condition by wearing sunscreen that contains titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, both of which are the main ingredients in Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics. Protect your skin with a foundation that has an SPF of 20 and look even more beautiful with Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics.
Why is mineral make-up a better choice for women of color?
Women of color who are exposed to sun are prone to hyperpigmentation of skin due to the increased melanin in their skin. The hyperpigmentation can be prevented simply by wearing a sunscreen with titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics carries a full range of foundations for women of color, all of which contain titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as its main ingredients, providing an SPF of 20.
Will mineral make-up provide enough coverage?
Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics can be applied with a brush for light to medium coverage or a sponge for heavier coverage. The powders are made of concentrated pigments so you are able to achieve full coverage by concealing blemishes with a concealer brush then layering the foundation until you achieve the desired coverage.
Will the powders accentuate the lines in my skin?
Avanyas Mineral Cosmetics does NOT contain any filler such as talc or cornstarch that normally fills in fine lines of the face. Our mineral powders will mix with the natural oils in your skin to give you a flawless finish.
How can I avoid the mess of mineral make-up?
Avanya has created a unique spill-proof container that eliminates the mess associated with mineral make-up. You can use a sponge with your loose powders to prevent flyaway powders.
How soon can the make up be applied after microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing or peels?
Our minerals can be worn immediately after microdermabrasion or light chemical peels. Not only does it cover up the redness but also it provides important sun protection and anti-inflammatory properties to the newly exposed skin. For application after laser resurfacing and other invasive cosmetic procedures, please consult your physician for permission to wear any type of make-up.

Application Technique:
Apply pure minerals to clean, moisturized skin. Allow moisturizer to absorb into skin before applying minerals to ensure an even application and prevent caking. It is important to have a little moisture on the skin to bind the powders so dont wait too long after applying moisturizer before applying your foundation.
To choose the correct color foundation, test a small amount of powders on the jaw line with a concealer brush or a blush brush, the powders should disappear into the skin.
Loose Mineral Foundation:
Step 1: Tap a small amount of minerals into the lid.
Step 2: Swirl the powder brush into the lid working the minerals into the bristles of your brush.
Step 3: Tap off any excess minerals from the brush.
Step 4: Apply minerals in a circular motion starting from outside and working toward the center of the face making sure to cover the entire face.
For Medium to Heavy coverage its best to apply foundation with a flocked sponge.
Its best to apply in layers to get the desired coverage than to try to cover everything at once.
If you find that you have very dry skin and need a creamy foundation, mix a small amount of moisturizer (50/50) with the loose mineral foundation and apply as you would a cream or liquid foundation. You may need to play around with the ratio to find the right consistency. Apply powder foundation with a brush to set creamy foundation for all day coverage.
Matte Finishing Powder:
To minimize large pores or to absorb excess oil, apply a thin layer of Matte Finishing Powder over foundation with your kabuki brush or powder brush. Matte Finishing Powder can also be worn under foundation for extra oil and shine control.
Loose Mineral Bronzer/ Blush:
Apply mineral bronzer/blush with a tapered blush brush to shade cheekbones for a chiseled look.
Tip: Use a darker shade of foundation for shading and as a bronzer for very light complexion
Pressed Mineral Eye Shadow and Liner:
All of our eye shadows double as eyeliner and fills in better than any pencil on the market!
For a sharper line, moisten the angled liner brush; pick up a small amount of eye shadow and trace a thin line around the lash, staying as close to the lash line as possible. For a more natural look, apply liner with a dry brush then smudge the line for a soft focus.
Our powders are versatile and fun, try using the eye shadows as blush or mixing it with Avanyas clear lip-gloss, Naked, for beautiful lip colors.
